Promulgated by the President in the Fifty-second Year of the Republic of India. An Ordinance to make provisions for the prevention of, and for dealing with, terrorist activities and for matters connected therewith. WHEREAS Parliament is not in session and the President is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it necessary for him to take immediate actionThis Ordinance may be called the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance, 2001.
It extends to the whole of India. Every person shall be liable to punishment under this Ordinance for every act or omission contrary to the provisions thereof, of which he is held guilty in India. citizens of India outside India; persons in the service of the Government, persons on ships and aircrafts, registered in India, wherever they may be.
Any person who commits an offence beyond India which is punishable under this Ordinance shall be dealt with according to the provisions of this Ordinance in the same manner as if such act had been committed in India. persons on ships and aircrafts, registered in India. wherever they may be. any right, privilege, obligation or liability acquired, accrued or incurred under this Ordinance.
It shall come into force at once and shall remain in force for a period of five years from the date of its commencement, but its expiry under the operation of this sub-section shall not affect -the previous operation of, or anything duly done or suffered under this Ordinance, or any right, privilege, obligation or liability acquired, accrued or incurred under this Ordinance.
