Indian authorities are in the final stages of drafting a response to a 30-point questionnaire prepared by the Pakistani investigators on the murderous Lashkar-e-Taiba attack on Mumbai in November last.Government sources told The Hindu that the response, based on the documentation made available by the Mumbai Police, could be issued as early as the end of this week.
India’s response will contain copies of key documents, including transcripts of the conversations between the Lashkar’s fidayeen unit and their Pakistan-based commanders. India will also provide the Global Positioning System data, closed-circuit television images, photographs of the perpetrators fingerprints, and DNA profiles of the perpetrators.
However, the response will not contain some of the material Pakistan had asked for, notably the confessional statement of arrested terrorist Mohammad Ajmal Amir to a Mumbai magistrate, as well as authenticated copies of depositions and exhibits filed by the prosecutors last month.said by officials.
This material is the property of the court, according to a senior Ministry of Home Affairs official. He said that if Pakistan wanted it, it would have to issue Letters Rogatory.Prepared even as Pakistan warned it would be unable to detain six key suspects held in February without further information, India’s response is intended to build pressure for the prosecution of Lashkar commanders held in that country.
